The Touryst from Shin’en Multimedia: The First Native 8K Game

The Touryst is a game where you explore islands and ancient monuments. Your goal is to uncover secret passages that would take you on adventures. You will also look for tropical paradises. In extreme cases, you may find alien artifacts.

It is the first 8K game on the console, and it is capable of rendering at 240 frames per second. However, the average or recommended rate is 60 FPS. Nevertheless, it allows you to see the future of gaming.

What is the game about?

In the game, you arrive in a place called Monument Islands. It is the main hub or main world. It is where you begin your journey. The thing is that the island has many sub-islands for you to discover. It is up to you to decide what you want to do. You can go for a swim or take a dive in the sea. There are also amusement parks and shopping areas. If you want, you can also go to a beach party.

There are other exciting things you can do here, such as:

  • Look for exotic islands
  • Explore ancient monuments
  • Find secret passages
  • Enjoy the life of a tourist

The game’s graphic is simplistic, which somehow reminds players of Minecraft, but the graphics are better. They are not pixelated.

The game offers a lot of fun, and there are many side activities that you can do. There are also mini-games and competitions. Many of the mini-games can actually work as independent games for mobile, like online slots.

For example, you can join a surfing competition on an island and play mini-games in a local arcade to fight for the highest score.

There is also  a mining game where you traverse the hazards of the mine, and you only have to use a rope. A game like this will take a long to complete, and there are many of them. As such, they can be standalone titles on mobile themselves.

There are also puzzle sections, and one would really have a tough time on some of the puzzles. Players would either scratch their heads or head on to YouTube to seek guidance to solve these puzzles.

Some tasks are challenging. For example, a task will require you to take ten photos of something. To get these photos, you need to explore the island to find them. Another example is finding secret scrolls. These tasks will help you explore the island, but they can be cumbersome.

Island Secrets

One exciting thing that people find amusing is the secret stuff. Every island hides a lot of secrets. You need to find them, and you get a reward if you succeed. You will get collectibles or in-game currencies if you manage to crack the secrets.

There are also quests in which you need to help the citizens of the island. For example, some of them would ask you to collect some items. There are also story modes that you can play.

The content of the game is so big that people get lost and confused. It is why it is one of the most impressive games released recently. On top of that, add the 8K resolution, and you get a truly unique experience that does not seem to end.

Many people complain about the game’s ending. At the start of the game, it seems like it will take you on a mystical journey. However, the ending is nothing more than a tease for what seems to be an upcoming sequel. In short, it does not really give players closure on the narrative.

Player Complaints

The game is not perfect, and some of its physics infuriate gamers. For one, the distance between objects is confusing. The details and horizons are great, but the platforming is terrible. As such, you cannot accurately gauge how to move about.

Some mini-games are also extremely frustrating. For example, if you go to an arcade to try and beat someone’s high score, you will find an old game that came from the same developer. The old game was merely ported in this new one, which means you are not getting additional value if you have already played that game before.

Should you buy The Touryst?

Yes, absolutely. It does offer about eight or ten hours of game time. It is a short game if you just follow the narrative, but a long one if you really take the time to explore.

To some, it is not a good choice since the graphics are seemingly geared towards children. However, it is the experience that makes it an excellent open-world game. It is the first 8K on gaming consoles, so there is a lot of beautiful graphics to behold.
