Holster levels that you should know of

If you wish to understand so much about 1911holsters, you must think of them in terms of levels. Those levels are always designated by the holsters manufacturers. The level is simply what people use to describe the retention or the ability for a holster to be able to firmly hold that firearm in place. When you come across levels in holsters, you will at least know what to expect when carrying your firearm. Here are some of the things to expect when you are looking for holsters levels

Level 1

This is the first level of holsters to expect or that you may come across. When you think of level one, you should be thinking about pressure retention. Level one holsters are known to pressing around the trigger of your firearm so that to avoid it going off without your knowledge. The pressure is not supposed to be overpowered in any case as that may lead to the firearm coming out free from your holster.

The level 2 holsters

This is the second level of the holster in the market today. At this level, you should expect some kind of a mechanical device that will be responsible for locking your firearm into the holster. As long as the device is activated, you should not be worried about your firearm coming off the holster. Your firearm can also come off if the pressure exerted is enough to break the device responsible for retention. Otherwise, your gun will be very safe in this holster. You should not be worried that much because the devices are always reinforced and they are also very difficult to break.

Level three holsters

This is the third level of holsters that you are likely to come across. In this type of level, three devices are incorporated in the gun holster. Not unless the three devices are deactivated, your firearm will stay intact and will be safe in the holster. At this level, there is almost no amount of pressure that can easily break it. It is more pressure-resistant than the level 2 holster.

Although level three provides a good hold, you should understand that it is not the level that provides maximum retention of the firearm. There are different types of holsters manufactured by different manufacturers with different levels of retention. It is very possible to find a holster with level four or even higher. If you find one, be sure that it incorporates the same principle as in level two and level three. When you check the device that locks the firearm, you should expect something different as well.

If you have been keen enough, you will realize that a level 2 or above shoulder holster is made of Kydex or other materials, most especially synthetic.  When you think of holsters in terms of levels, expect your holster to be bigger and bulkier with higher levels. Only check the characteristics that you will love your holster to have before choosing one.
